Charlayne Woodard

Seattle Repertory Theater welcomes playwright and actress Charlayne Woodard back to the stage in an inspiring one woman show called the Night Watcher.  The story’s about a woman who’s an aunt, godmother and friend to about 30 children of family and friends and the extraordinary ways she mentors them throughout her life.  The title of the play comes from one of  the children who takes on the role of night watcher in his home, staying awake until dawn making sure the house is safe.   She’s an intriguing and dynamic actress that will keeps the audience on the edge of the seats.
Ms. Woodard has written four solo plays and has received many awards for her playwrighting and performances.  She’s also an accomplished actor  with film credits that include Unbreakable; The Crucible; Eye for an Eye, Law and Order:SUV and ER to name a few.
Check out Charlayne Woodard in The Night Watcher at the Seattle Repertory Theater from September 25 through October 26, 2009.  Previews begin September 25, with opening night set for October 1.  Info available at: www.seattlerep.org.

St. Louis Native and spoken word recording artist, Tanya Alexander recently was awarded first place for Best Music Video at this year's Hollywood Black Film (HBFF) in Beverly HIlls.  The video that won the prize is an awesome video called "1 Out Of 10".  This video is the first spoken word music video to screen at HBFF and was one of the only three music videos selected for the festival.  Congratulation are also in orders to for Ms. Alexander for the release of her second video called "The Mirrors."  Tanya is definitely doing what it takes to promote herself and her beautiful work.  She is also an actress and performer.

 Also, congratulation to Mayda Del Valle for her performance at the White House when President Obama and Michelle Obama hosted it's very first poetry jam at the oval office.  Her performance was electrifying, inspiring and it provided hope to the entire genre of spoken word poetry.  Mayda is an awesome performer and we wish her the best in her poetic journey.
